Art Docent Program
In 2019, a new Art Docent Program will be started at Blaine to help enhance the art offered by our teachers in their classrooms. All elementary teachers will have the opportunity to partner with a parent volunteer who will lead the class in discussion and a project related to a different artist each month. This program is entirely volunteer-run and funded by the PT.
The program is set up to expose our students to a wide variety of artists, periods, techniques and art through lessons, history and hands-on art making. The curriculum for the program has been thoughtfully created to help students learn to appreciate art, and builds on artistic skills at each grade level.
Lawton has been utilizing an AD program for years and they have had great success with it. We have joined the Lawton Art-Docent Chairs to work together on this project and they have been extremely helpful in this endeavor.
Here is some key info:
• Art Docents (parent volunteers) will teach one lesson plan based on one artist each month.
• The lesson plans are available on our Art Docent website: magnoliaartdocents.wordpress.com/
• Lesson plans have been created and include observing art, discussing the art, learning about the artist, and doing a project in the style of the artist.
